Sophomore Wilhelm Schauman shot a final round three-over par 74 for a 54-hole total of 208 to claim individual medalist honors and lead Minnesota men’s golf team to the Wolverine Invitational championship in Ann Arbor.
The Gophers won their second tournament in less than a week. They won the PSINet Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday and finished four shots ahead of Toledo.
Ben Myers finished in 11th place with a 219, including a one-over par 72 on Sunday.
There are only two more tournaments left in the fall season. They’ll play at the Windon Memorial Classic in Chicago Oct. 2nd and 3rd.
Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team had a successful weekend, winning the Mary Fossum invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
“We played excellent golf today and I’m not surprised at all,” Minnesota coach Melissa Arthur said.
Senior Jenny Bruun lead the way with a two-under par 70 for the first medalist honors of her collegiate career.
The Gophers women totalled a 296 to win the 15-team tournament. Nationally ranked Michigan State (20), Northwestern (21), and Oregon (24) were among the teams Minnesota defeated.
Megan Stier tied for third place with an even par 72, and Cindy Cannon went around in 75, good for a tie for 12th.
The tournament’s first 36 holes were rained out Saturday, leaving the Gophers just 18 to complete the win.
