Regents support regulatory oversight of admin compensation

A special committee expressed support for new policies that would give the University’s Board of Regents greater command over administrative compensation and severance pay on Friday, according to the Star Tribune.

The entire Board of Regents will meet in June to consider the draft policies — which would end tailored paid leave for administrators, require the regents chair and vice chair to approve “significant, special” compensation or severance arrangements and force an organized system of reviewing executive compensation —according to the Star Tribune report

The three-regent committee on executive compensation and leaves was formed in late April in response to media scrutiny of University compensation packages, according to an article by the Minnesota Daily.

The Star Tribune quoted Regent Richard Beeson as saying the regent’s review of executive compensation has resulted in what will be “a best practice around the country.”
