First baseman Nick O’Shea signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, joining AJ Pettersen and Justin Gominsky as Gophers to sign a pro deal. Drafted in the 25th round by Cincinnati, O’Shea reportedly received a $30,000 signing bonus. The standout first baseman led Minnesota in home runs, RBI, and slugging percentage in 2011. O’Shea, who caught seven games this year, will be looked at as a catcher by the Reds, according to Gophersports.com. Neither the Reds nor O’Shea have confirmed that report to the Daily.
