Jones not going to Hawaii

The only remaining candidate for the job is the former provost of the University of California system

Robert Jones , University of Minnesota senior vice president for system academic administration, has withdrawn his name from consideration for the presidency of the University of Hawaii system. Jones was one of two finalists for the job, along with M.R.C. Greenwood , the former provost of the University of California system and chancellor of UC- Santa Cruz. In an e-mail sent to the UniversityâÄôs Board of Regents, Executive Team and Faculty Consultative Committee Chair, University President Bob Bruininks said Jones withdrew after discussions with his family. âÄúAfter a great deal of deliberation, he and his wife Lynn came to the conclusion that it was not a good time or fit for them,âÄù the e-mail said. Bruininks said Jones will continue to be part of the UniversityâÄôs leadership. âÄúIt is an honor to be considered for such a position and a true testament to RobertâÄôs leadership and professionalism,âÄù Bruininks said. University of Hawaii Board of Regents Chairman Al Landon said in a short statement that he was disappointed with JonesâÄô decision to withdraw from the race. The University of Hawaii Board of Regents will meet this week to consider how to proceed, the statement said.
