Minneapolis and University of Minnesota police responded to several auto-related incidents and an assault around campus this week.
University of Minnesota Police Department Chief Matt Clark said crime has remained steady in the past couple weeks.
Minneapolis Police Department officers responded to an assault Nov. 27 at Dinkytown Wine and Spirits around 5:45 p.m. The suspect was taken into custody by UMPD and taken to a hospital nearby.
MPD responded to two thefts from motor vehicles around campus in the past week. One theft occurred on the 800 block of 19th Avenue of Southeast Thursday between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Another took place on the corner of 21st avenue Southeast and Como Avenue Southeast between 10:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
On Sunday, MPD officers responded to a property damage hit and run incident on the corner of Oak Street Southeast and 4th Street Southeast around 6:30 p.m. The victim’s vehicle was damaged when the suspect rear-ended her and drove off.
MPD officers found a vehicle driving recklessly in Downtown Minneapolis Sunday. The vehicle eventually crashed at the corner of 5th Avenue Southeast and Washington Avenue Southeast around 9:00 p.m., and the suspects fled.
A victim’s car was stolen when it was left running and unlocked outside a residence on the 500 block of University Avenue Southeast on Monday around 8:10 a.m.
According the the UMPD crime log, the department responded to five thefts around campus in the past week.
Shannon McGoffin, the operations manager for UMPD, said that with more students off campus during the holidays, UMPD anticipates less crime in the next month.
