Pintusava named women’s tennis athlete of the week

Gophers tennis player Natallia Pintusava was named Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after leading her team to a 5-2 win at rival Wisconsin on Sunday.

The sophomore from Belarus won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Magdalena Wiecha to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. She has won 10 consecutive matches overall — four in singles, six in doubles — to aid her team's 9-1 start.

Pintusava previously won Athlete of the Week honors Jan. 25, 2011. Since then, no Gophers women's tennis player has earned the honor.

No. 30 Minnesota, which has won six matches in a row, next plays at No. 58 Tulane on March 15 and at No. 43 Louisiana State on March 17.

The Gophers are 5-1 this season against ranked opponents.
