Board of Regents completes Kaler’s performance report

President Kaler recieved positive feedback in a brief annual review.

University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler has received a positive review from the school’s Board of Regents.

The board’s brief 2015-16 performance report — prepared and discussed in closed-door meetings — mentioned “challenges during the past year.” However, it said regents believe Kaler is committed to addressing these issues as he enters his sixth year at the University.

“By nearly every objective measure, the University is successfully delivering on its mission,” the board’s report said. “President Kaler deserves credit for the University’s tremendous and sustained success under his leadership.”

The report was prepared by a committee made up of board Chair Dean Johnson, Vice Chair David McMillan and Regent Laura Brod. To complete the review, the committee gathered feedback from regents, University officials, faculty leadership and students.

“Overall, we believe President Kaler’s performance has been commendable,” Johnson said.

Regents said Kaler overcame significant challenges in the past five years, adding that he has done much to advance the school’s mission.

Kaler — a chemical engineer by trade — came to the University in 2011 after a stint as Stony Brook University’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
