Pitchfork 2009 is flaming

Attendees of one of the most irony-infested music fests of the year can despair a bit less at the less-than-impressive line-up; The Flaming Lips are now closing the show. While last year had killer act after killer act (Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, The Hold Steady, Animal Collective) this year’s acts are at most interesting and at worst suffering from massive post-buzz syndrome. Yo La Tengo, Built to Spill? Sure, they’re all highly adored, but do Pitchfork-goers really want to re-visit the playlists of their high school days? The Flaming Lips aren’t much of a departure from that era, but at least they are rumored to give a live show that leaves a lifelong impression.
