Give undocumented immigrants “chance they deserve”
Published October 28, 2010
The arguments made by Pauline Wagner in her Oct. 26 letter “Dayton supports undocumented immigrants” are both inaccurate and short-sighted.
Wagner equates compromised national security with amnesty for undocumented immigrants and then falls into the cliché opinion that closing the borders will suddenly eliminate the conundrum of 12 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.
The United States must confront the issue of people already living within its borders.
I support a candidate who pledges universal health care and a basic level of education to all, because IâÄôd rather live in a society with healthy, educated people than sick, uneducated people. Whether we like it or not, we are affected by the undocumented immigrants around us. I support a candidate who suggests we give them the chance they deserve.
