The Minnesota men’s tennis team (18-7) was one of seven Big Ten schools that earned an at-large big into the 2009 men’s tennis NCAA tournament Tuesday.
The Gophers will play New Mexico (20-5) May 8 in the first round of the tournament. The match will be played at the University of Southern California, which is hosting the four-team regional Minnesota is competing in. The Trojans will play UC-Santa Barbara in their first round match, with that winner facing the winner between the Gophers and Lobos.
New Mexico enters the tournament having won the Mountain West tournament last weekend. The Lobos also defeated Minnesota 5-2 the last time the two teams faced each other, on March 16, 2007
The tournament bid is the 14th in the past 16 seasons for the Gophers and 20th overall.
