Men’s hockey downs Seawolves in Alaska

Erik Haula scored two goals and Kent Patterson recorded his third shutout of the season.

The Gophers improved to 6-1-0 Friday night in Alaska at Sullivan Arena.

Kent Patterson recorded 22 saves in his third shutout of the season and the Gophers gained two crucial points on the road against the Seawolves.

Despite a six-hour flight and three-hour time zone difference, Minnesota silenced the SeawolvesâÄô offensive and defensive attacks en route to its third straight win in conference play.

Erik Haula added two goals to his season total Friday and helped the Gophers win the first game of the series.

No. 8 Minnesota (6-1-0, 3-0-0 WCHA) is now 3-for-3 away from Mariucci Arena this season.

Haula got the scoring started after burying a Zach Budish feed into the back of the net. It was HaulaâÄôs first career point against Alaska-Anchorage.

Nick Bjugstad and Mark Alt added goals later in the second period to stretch the lead to three. It was AltâÄôs first goal of the season.

The Gophers wasted no time adding extra insurance for Patterson, though he wouldnâÄòt need it.

Justin Holl scored his second goal in as many games from the blue line to make it 4-0.

Haula added his second goal of the night in the third period to finalize the score at 5-0.

The Gophers are now in a three-way tie with Nebraska-Omaha and Michigan Tech atop the conference standings.

Minnesota will look to complete the road sweep of the Seawolves Saturday night.
