University taps famous alumni for homecoming marshals

Garrison Kiellor and Nobel prize winner Norman Borlaug will be among the returning celebrities.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) âÄî The University of Minnesota is tapping some of its most famous alumni to serve as grand marshals at this year’s homecoming parade in October. They include former Vice President Walter Mondale, humorist Garrison Keillor, Nobel prize winner Norman Borlaug and basketball pro Lindsay Whalen. This year’s homecoming celebration on Oct. 9 will be the first at the new TCF Bank Stadium. Nearly 30,000 students are expected to attend the parade. When the parade ends, the crowd will follow the University of Minnesota Marching Band into the new stadium for an old-fashioned pep rally and fireworks.
