Burning the holy Quran

Abdul Malmi Kakkada - University student

As a practicing Muslim, the recent burning of the Quran was an extremely painful experience. The pain is not due to the feeling that someone has taken it upon themselves to offend my faith and my way of life, but due to the fact that an individual is unfortunate enough to burn a book that is a source of knowledge and wisdom.

As a Muslim, the act of burning the holy Quran increases in me the desire to learn and understand this holy book and live according to its teachings, for the true “life” of the Quran lies in Muslims understanding and practicing its teachings.

I hope that my fellow Muslims understand that by one individual burning the holy Quran, the knowledge contained in the holy book will not be lost as long as Muslims make an effort to learn from and institute its teaching in our day-to-day lives.
