Frightful weather hinders MSP airport operations

Rain, hail, and strong winds have descended on the Twin Cities area with a severe thunderstorm issued Thursday morning, according to the Star Tribune.

Beyond making for a damp commute, the storms are slowing down operations at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the Star Tribune reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration initially issued a "ground stop" at the airport, meaning no flights were allowed to head to the Twin Cities. After about 30 minutes that was lifted and was followed by the FAA slowing down the arrival rate, according to the Star Tribune.

"It looks like things will be pretty slow around here this morning," said airport spokesman Pat Hogan in an interview with the Star Tribune.

An urban and small-stream flood advisory has also been issued for a portion of the Twin Cities, the Pioneer Press reported.
