Gophers bounce back vs. No. 8 Michigan State

One day after the worst loss in the Don Lucia era, the Gophers men’s hockey team bounced back with a much needed 2-1 win.

After the worst loss in 11 years, Minnesota headed to East Langsing to face the No. 8 Spartans of Michigan State. Jordan Schroeder started the scoring with a second period goal. The goal continues Schroeder’s hot streak, during which the sophomore has scored four goals in the past six games. After Michigan State tied the game late in the third period, Mike Carman scored the game-winning goal with 2:46 remaining in the third period. Kent Patterson got the start in place of Alex Kangas and had a career best 37 saves.

The College Hockey Showcase got off to a rough start for the Gophers, but as they have all season salvaged the weekend with a split. The split is Minnesota’s third of the season. With the split Minnesota goes to 17-12-5 all-time at the showcase. The Gophers are now 5-8-1 after the weekend, and will have a home-and-home series against Minnesota State beginning this Friday at Mariucci Arena.
