Daily Digest: Rybak rallying support for Vikings deal, Florida police chief steps down and Whitney Houston’s cause of death determined

Here's your Daily Digest for Thursday, Mar. 22:
According to the Startribune, Mayor R.T. Rybak is rallying for support on the Vikings stadium plans. Two council members, John Quincy and Don Samuels, confirmed they signed the letter to support the Mayor’s plans.
Opposition by a majority of the 13-member City Council has posed issues for the stadium deal’s progress. Gov. Mark Dayton met with two council members Monday to persuade them to support the deal.
According to the New York Times, the Florida police chief, Bill Lee, overseeing the investigation into the fatal shooting of a teenager temporarily stepped down today. Yesterday the Sanford City Commission voted 3-to-2 that it no longer had confidence in him.
Lee said that his role had become a distraction in the investigation of the shooting of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
This comes after much pressure on the Sanford city manager to fire Lee because of outraged local residents and civil rights leaders who criticize the police for not fully investigating the shooting and not arresting George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot the teenager while walking through his gated community.
Zimmerman claimed the act was in self-defense but 911 tapes released last week drew skepticism about the official police report. Thousands rallied in New York City and Miami on Wednesday in protest of the police’s actions.
In other news, according to CNN, Whitney Houston’s death was an accidental incident caused by drowning, heart disease and cocaine use.
