Quam named new dean of CEHD

Jean Quam has acted as interim dean since Oct. 2008.

Professor Jean Quam was named dean of the College of Education and Human Development on Friday by Tom Sullivan, vice president for academic affairs and provost. Quam has been serving as an interim dean since last October and the full-time appointment will be made official upon approval at the University of Minnesota Board of RegentsâÄô November meeting, according to a news release. Sullivan described Quam as having support from faculty within the college as well as outside it. âÄúShe is a leader of calm and careful judgment, with strategic vision, and, very importantly, she has that very special set of skills needed to share and help realize that vision,âÄù Sullivan said in a prepared statement. Quam holds a Ph.D. in social welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Quam said, as dean, she wants to create an âÄúengaged collegeâÄù by inviting diversity in disciplines and conducting quality research, the news release stated. CEHD is the third largest college at the University, housing 189 faculty, more than 500 staff and 5,100 students.
