Twin Cities’ lost era of funk and soul

Tomorrow marks the release of Secret Stash Records Twin Cities Fun & Soul: Lost R&B Grooves from Minneapolis/St. Paul 1964-1979. The 21 track compilation uncovers the lost era in Minneapolis-St. Paul music with the R&B singers who were at the forefront of “The Minneapolis Sound.”

If you missed the Funk & Soul blowout at the Cedar this past weekend, featuring performances from Wanda Davis, Willie Walker, Maurice Jacox, members of The Valdons, Prophets of Peace, Willie and the Bees, Band of Thieves and The Exciters, now’s your chance to get the funk over to the Fifth Element tomorrow night. The Valdons will play a free show at 6 p.m. for all ages crowd.
