Minnesota swimmers and divers recognized by Big Ten

Several members of the Gophers men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned Big Ten weekly honors Tuesday.

Defending Big Ten champion Minnesota swept the women's awards after a dominant 196-99 win at Michigan on Friday. The conference named Tess Behrens its Swimmer of the Week after she won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 200 medley relay. She was also a part of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team. This is the second Big Ten award of her career.

Lauren Votava garnered Freshman of the Week honors after winning the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay. She also placed second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 200 medley relay. Votava wins her first award after her first meet with Minnesota.

Junior Sarah McCrady earned the Diver of the Week title. At Michigan, she won both the 1- and 3-meter events with NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores of 319.43 and 314.55, respectively. This is also the first award of her career.

For the men, sophomore and recent transfer Jordan Lesser took home Diver of the Week honors. While Minnesota lost to defending Big Ten champion Michigan 170-124, Lesser notched one of the only wins for the Gophers. He placed first on 1-meter diving and third on 3-meter diving with NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks of 333.6 and 334.88, respectively. This is his first award.

The women will face Iowa State at the University Aquatic Center on Friday, while the men will compete intrasquad.
