FSN, BTN to televise 34 Gophers hockey games

Minnesota opens its regular season Oct. 12 on FOX Sports North.

Gophers men’s hockey television coverage will be split between two networks this season.

FOX Sports North and the Big Ten Network announced Tuesday they will combine to cover 34 of Minnesota’s 36 regular-season games.

FSN will televise 28 contests, including 17 telecasts on FSN PLUS. The Big Ten Network will feature six broadcasts.

Thirteen of the FSN broadcasts will be at Mariucci Arena, and the rest will be on the road. FSN’s first game will be the regular-season opener against Michigan State on Oct. 12.

FSN will also televise Minnesota’s border battles against Wisconsin on Nov. 16 and Feb. 14 and against North Dakota on Jan. 18-19.

The schedule features multiple games against in-state schools — three against Minnesota State, one against Minnesota-Duluth and two each against St. Cloud State and Bemidji State. All FSN games will be available in HD.

The Big Ten Network will air its first game in Madison, Wis., when the Gophers play Wisconsin on Jan. 17.

Also included in Big Ten Network coverage are WCHA games against Alaska-Anchorage on Jan. 11 and Minnesota State on Jan. 15.

On Feb. 17, the Gophers’ first outdoor game in the modern era will be seen on the Big Ten Network when Minnesota plays Wisconsin at Soldier Field as part of the Hockey City Classic in Chicago.

Minnesota’s final telecast on the Big Ten Network will be a March 2 game against Denver.
