Gophers get NCAA nod

Minnesota will open up play this Sunday in Connecticut.

The Minnesota women’s basketball team had two weeks of waiting to do after making an early exit from the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.

But Sunday evening, the wait was over as the Gophers (20-11) learned they were tournament bound ñ earning a nine seed as they will take on No. 8 seeded Texas this Sunday in Bridgeport, Conn.

Minnesota was upset by Michigan State in their matchup at the conference tournament after the Gophers had defeated the Spartans twice in as many tries during the regular season.

But that will soon be forgotten as they prepare for the Longhorns (21-12), who finished 7-9 in the Big 12 this season. If Minnesota were to win, it would likely go on to face No.1 seed in the Greensboro region, Connecticut.
