The Gophers jump out to an early lead 2-0 as sophomore Anne Schleper scores two power play goals within a minute of each other eight minutes into the game. The first was unassisted, and the second was assisted by senior Chelsey Jones.
Minnesota holds a 2-0 lead going into the second period after scoring on two of three power plays. The Gophers outshot the Orange 10-6 in the opening period. Syracuse answers with 8:57 left in the second period as sophomore Megan Skelly intercepts a pass in front of the Minnesota net and deflects the puck off a Gophers skate into the net. Minnesota comes right back to extend its lead 3-1 as Chelsey Jones took a shot from right in front of the Syracuse net and deflected the puck off the top right corner of the bar with 4:31 left in the period. Laura May and Mira Jalosuo scored the assists. Minnesota leads Syracuse 3-1 going into the final period. The Gophers continued to outshoot the Orange 14-7 in the second period. Syracuse failed to score on two power plays, and only had one shot on goal in the three and a half minutes with an advantage.
