A team of managers at Loring Pasta Bar bought the Dinkytown restaurant from its owner Monday.

The restaurant closed after the sale until its slated reopening Aug. 9 as the LRx: Loring and Pharmacy Bar.

Loring Pasta Bar is the most recent sale of embattled previous owner Jason McLean’s Dinkytown businesses. In July, he sold the neighboring Varsity Theater to a Los Angeles real estate firm for $2.51 million.

McLean faces accusations of child sexual abuse stemming from the ‘70s and ‘80s when he worked at the Children’s Theatre Company.

According to court documents, McLean was considering divesting entirely from Minneapolis to help pay for legal costs and a $200,000 settlement related to the accusations.

Each of the four main new owners have all worked at the restaurant for over 10 years.

“We were interested in creating a new narrative and we’re interested in reviving a business that has been confronted with challenge,” said Joe Henkin, one of the new owners.

Aside from the name change, which pulls the building’s history as a drug store, the new owners will make other changes to the restaurant including tweaks to the menu, he said.

The new owners also plan to make small modifications to the interior and continue live programming at the restaurant.
