A Ramsey County judge rescheduled Jeffery Trevino's trial for late July, news sources reported Wednesday.
Trevino, 39, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Kira Steger – who was commonly known as Kira Trevino. Prosecutors asked to delay the trial so they could have more time to examine Steger's body, the Star Tribune reported, which was pulled from the Mississippi River last week.
The trial, which was originally scheduled to begin May 28, is now set for July 22.
"This needs to move along," defense attorney John Conard said in the Pioneer Press. "I don't know why it takes six weeks to turn an autopsy around."
Steger was last seen alive in late February. Police say traces of her blood were found in her car, which was abandoned in a Mall of America parking lot.
