Como convenience store burglarized

Joe’s Market and Deli reported its safe was stolen.

A convenience store in the Southeast Como neighborhood was burglarized Sunday night.

The owner of Joe’s Market and Deli came in to open the store Monday and found the nightly drop safe missing, said Hannah Fisher, the store’s manager.

Fisher and the owner have not yet calculated how much money was in the safe or the damage costs of the burglary.

Sometime between 11 p.m. Sunday and early Monday morning, someone pried open the front door, which was locked with a deadbolt, Fisher said.

She said the foot-long bolts securing the safe, which go through the safe and the floor to the basement, must have been cut. All that remained in place of the safe were four bolt holes.

The counter, also built into the floor, was dragged out to reach the safe underneath, Fisher said.

She and the owner will review surveillance cameras to see how much of the burglary was captured on footage.

According to a Minneapolis police report, the store’s floor appeared to have drag marks, which may have been the result of the safe being dragged out the front door.

Joe’s Market has not been robbed or burglarized in the five years Fisher has worked there, she said.

Despite the burglary and the damages, Joe’s Market was still able to open on time Monday, Fisher said.
