The University men’s club rowing team rolled to a strong weekend against Big Ten competition. The original men’s Big Ten championship regatta was cancelled in Indianapolis, due to low water levels.
The lightweight four boat finished first against two Michigan boats, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State and Northwestern.
The novice eight boat won its race. The varsity eight boat — which was the same crew as the novice eight boat — placed third in the varsity race.
While they did well at the Big Ten races, the Gophers hope the women’s team’s impending varsity status — and impending varsity money — rub off on them.
“We’re pretty excited about it,”team member Brian Rosenberg said. “We’re hoping it’s beneficial for our program and raises our visibility.”
