Even sides are safe again for parking

Drivers can once again park on both sides of residential streets in Minneapolis. The city has lifted its ban against parking on the even side of residential streets.
The parking ban was imposed in December and continued throughout the winter months to provide room for emergency vehicles and city plows to operate on residential streets.
City officials said the recent warm weather melted a significant amount of snow and improved street conditions considerably.
Greg Kolinski, supervisor of street maintenance and repair in the Minneapolis Street Maintenance Department, said that the only instance in which the ban would be implemented again would be in a declared snow emergency.
“The ban mostly allows emergency vehicles to get through on the residential streets,” Kolinski said.
The ban was also enacted because of the volume of snow piled on roadsides and the resulting narrowing of streets, Kolinski said.
