After 210 minutes and 52 second of scoreless hockey, the Gophers have finally allowed an opponent to find the back of the net and trail 2-1 through two periods.
10:52 through the second period, the Whitecaps Allie Thunstrom broke away from the Gophers defenders after stealing the puck at center ice. Thunstrom faked to the left and slid the puck around Alyssa Grogan on the right.
The Gophers tied the game with 1:34 left in the first period on a breakaway goal by Jen Schoullis. Schoullis stole the puck at the Whitecaps blue line and fired a slap shot into the top-right corner of the goal to tie the game at one.
The Whitecaps responded 14 seconds later as Saara Tuominen scored their second goal of the period.
