Eight sign tenders with Gophers wrestling squad

The Minnesota wrestling team signed eight recruits for the 2001-2002 season. Among the notables:
Marcus LeVesseur is a three-time state wrestling champion from Minneapolis Roosevelt High School. He is currently a senior at Bloomington Kennedy. LeVesseur is slated to wrestle next season at 149 pounds.
Matt Nagel is a four-time state champion from Frazee High School. He is also a two-time Junior National Greco-Roman champion and should compete at 157 pounds.
Jamell Tidwell is also at Bloomington Kennedy, where he was the 130-pound high school champion. He will wrestle at 141 pounds.
Tommy Owen is a two-time Washington State High School champion at 125 pounds, and will wrestle at 141 pounds.

Sailing
The Minnesota Sailing team won the Streuffert Cup in Wayzata, then finished third in the Area West Regatta in Madison Oct. 28.
The third place finish guarantees Minnesota a spot at the Fall Dinghy championship in Chicago over Thanksgiving. Wisconsin, Purdue and Northwestern will also race.
Alumni
Former Gopher Josh Rawlings, an offensive tackle with last season’s football team, signed with the New England Patriots on Wednesday.
Rawlings, 23, was playing on the practice squad with the Kansans City Chiefs. He originally signed with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent on August 20, 2000.
Rawlings was a three year letterwinner with Minnesota (1997-99).
