After rewarding his team with a victory Saturday night, Kyle Rau was awarded himself on Tuesday.
The senior captain was named the Big Ten's second star of the week after scoring a game-winning overtime goal against RIT.
The Gophers and the Tigers were locked at two apiece when sophomore Hudson Fasching's shot from the circle bounced right to Rau, who punched it in to give the Gophers third place in the Mariucci Classic. Rau tallied an assist earlier in the game, as well as on Friday against Merrimack, to give him a three point weekend in the tournament.
Rau is the active NCAA leader for game-winning goals, and 20 of his goals at Minnesota have been game-winners.
The conference's first star of the week went to senior forward Matt Johnson of Ohio State, while the third start went to goaltender Joel Rumpel of Wisconsin.
The Gophers resume conference play this weekend when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wovlerines Friday and Saturday.
