The more things change…

I spent the afternoon paging through the Daily’s archives to find a file photo for our profile on former Gopher football player Karl Mecklenburg.  It was almost eerie to see how closely some of the stories from 1981 and 1982 matched those we’ve covered over the last two months.  A couple in particular caught my eye.

Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak came to power following the assassination of President Anwar El Sadat on October 14 1981.  Mubarak was forced out of office by a popular uprising last week.

Radioactive waste from research labs continues to be a issue for the University.

Current Minnesota governor Mark Dayton announced his first campaign for senate.

 

What you don’t see today is almost as striking.

Access to high-profile athletes was drastically different.

National Camera and Video exchange still publishes a weekly advertisement, but in the StarTribune.
