Rep. Hausman retains district 66A seat

State Rep. Alice Hausman, DFL-Falcon Heights, won her 15th consecutive term Tuesday night against Republican candidate Jon Heyer.

State Rep. Alice Hausman, DFL-Falcon Heights, won her 15th consecutive term Tuesday night against Republican candidate Jon Heyer.

Hausman, who represents Minnesota House District 66A, won 67 percent of her district’s vote,, with only one precinct not reporting at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Hausman, a retired educator, first won her spot in a special election in 1989. Her district includes about 40,000 people living in Falcon Heights and Roseville.

During the 2015 legislative session, she led the DFL’s Capital Investment Committee in addition to serving on the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance, and Transportation Policy and Finance committees.

A proponent of voting access, Hausman is an advocate for streamlined absentee voting, early voting and voter pre-registration for teens. She also pushed for an increase in affordable housing and allowing felons to vote if no longer incarcerated.

She told the Minnesota Daily last month she would favor universal health care as well as overhauling the mental health care system.

Hausman has previously said she would advocate for moving “more urgently” on climate initiatives.

Heyer, who is a semi-retired church educator and Minnesota native, campaigned on a platform of job creation and supporting small businesses. He promoted local control of education policy and fiscal restraint.
