Following two straight-set losses over the weekend, the Gophers volleyball team dropped from No. 10 to No. 14 in Monday’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.

Minnesota lost at No. 24 Ohio State on Friday by a score of 23-25, 20-25, 26-28. The Buckeyes, who lost to Wisconsin 3-1 on Sunday, fell to No. 25 in the poll.

Four-time defending champion Penn State, which swept the Gophers 25-15, 26-24, 25-15 on Saturday, climbed one spot to No. 8. The Nittany Lions defeated Wisconsin in straight sets Friday night.

Minnesota’s No. 14 ranking is its lowest since the week of Nov. 22, 2010, when it was ranked 15th. The Gophers held the No. 12 spot in the 2011 AVCA Preseason Poll.

Minnesota (8-5 overall, 1-3 Big Ten) will hit the road again next weekend, playing at No. 18 Michigan at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 and at unranked Michigan State at 6 p.m. on Oct. 8. The Gophers have not won in Ann Arbor since 2005.
