Vikings sign two recent defensive Gophers

Cedric McKinley and Marcus Sherels impressed the team in a camp last weekend.

After impressing at last weekendâÄôs rookie mini-camp, former Gophers Cedric McKinley and Marcus Sherels have been signed by the Minnesota Vikings, along with Minnesota StateâÄôs Adrian Battles , to free-agent contracts, according to the Star Tribune. McKinley, a defensive end, transferred to Minnesota after playing at one of the nationâÄôs top junior colleges, Mississippi Gulf Coast. He started nine games in his final season for the Gophers, recording 35 tackles and two sacks. He also forced two fumbles and recovered three. Sherels was tied for second on the team in interceptions with two, and the cornerback returned a fumble for a touchdown. Sherels was sixth on the team with 51 tackles while playing in 10 games.
