Gophers fall in the polls after loss to Robert Morris at Ridder Arena

After splitting games with Robert Morris University last weekend, the Minnesota womenâÄôs hockey team dropped from No. 3 to No. 7 in the USA Today/USA Hockey womenâÄôs poll. Minnesota-Duluth and Wisconsin stay at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, following two wins from both teams last weekend. -Heidi Hanse Tobias falls a match short Sophomore Tobias Wernet was one match short from earning a spot in the main draw for singles at the ITA All American tournament. Tobias started the tournament by winning extremely close matches against first-round opponent Igricio Taboada of Miami and second-round opponent Sinsia Markovic of Texas Tech . On Wednesday, things were looking up for the Gophers singles front man as he entered the third round of qualifier play. Wernet met his match, however, as he was brought down by VirginiaâÄôs 26th seeded Houston Barrick (6-3) (6-2). After being placed into the qualifier on account of being a âÄúlucky loser,âÄù sophomore Sebastian Gallego also eventually dropped before making it to the main draw. Stiff competition in qualifier play seemed only to be a preview of what is not to come for Minnesota in the main draw. -Brian Johnson
