Gophers senior linebacker Nate Triplett received his third honor in as many days following his performance in the Gophers’ 20-13 win over Air Force on Saturday.
Triplett was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The award also means that Triplett’s name will be added to the watch list for the 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given by the FWAA to the best defensive player of the year.
Triplett has recorded 26 tackles, a game-changing interception against Syracuse on Sept. 5, and the game-winning touchdown on a 52-yard fumble recovery on Saturday.
On Sunday, Triplett was honored as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and the Walter Camp Football Foundation Bowl Championship Subdivision Defensive Player of the Week.
