Baseball team headed to Fullerton

The Minnesota baseball team will play in the NCAA regional qualifiers against Cal State Fullerton (41-15) Friday at 10 p.m. The Gophers (30-28) earned an automatic bid into the NCAA’s by winning the Big Ten tournament with a 15-5 win over Iowa Saturday night.

The Gophers have the No. 4 seed in the region. No. 2 Stanford and No. 3 New Mexico will join them in Fullerton.

The Gophers and Cal State Fullerton have played each other eight times since 2003. In 2004, the Gophers lost to the Titans 7-1 in the regionals the year they went on to win the College World Series.

Both teams come into the matchup riding hot streaks, with Minnesota winning 15 of its last 19 and Cal State Fullerton winning 23 of its last 25.

This marks the 30th time the Gophers have made it to the NCAA tournament, which is more than any other Big Ten program in history. Minnesota is the only Big Ten team to make it this season.
