Olympics update: U.S. defeats reigning champions Brazil

The U.S. women's volleyball team defeated reigning Olympic champions Brazil three sets to one Monday in London.

The Americans won the first two sets easily at 25-18 and 25-17. Brazil managed a comeback in the third set, winning 25-22. But the top-ranked team in the world finished the match in the fourth set, scoring 25 points to the second-ranked team's 21.

Former Gophers setter Lindsey Berg started for the U.S. again. She contributed 106 sets, 17 digs, eight blocks, six spikes and 11 serves.

Gophers head coach Hugh McCutcheon coaches the American team.

The U.S. takes on China on Wednesday in its third pool-play match.
