Minnesota was able to stay out of the penalty box a lot more than the first period, but still were not able to light the lamp. The Mavericks had only one power-play opportunity in the second period to Minnesota’s three. Minnesota outshot MSUM on power plays 8-1 in the period. Captain Brittany Francis talked last night about the importance of taking advantage of the Mavericks’ miscues, which is something the team has not been able to do yet. The Gophers owned the last part of the game last night, scoring all four of their goals within the last half of the game. The Gophers have trailed going into the third period only twice this year, both losses to Wisconsin. 30.9-The Gophers fail to convert on the power play still 1-0. 3:33-The Gophers will get another chance at the power play as Rosso heads to the box once again. 7:39-The Gophers will have a 5-3 advantage for 25 seconds as MSUM’s Rosso heads to the box. 9:14-Erickson gets back in the game quickly, as the Gophers will get their second power-play opportunity to try and tie the game up. 12:30-The Mavericks come up with nothing on the power play. The Gophers head into he second period trailing 1-0. Minnesota has only trailed after the first once this year, a loss in Wisconsin. The Gophers have been in and out of the penalty box in the first period, which has forced the team to constantly fend off MSUM’s attacks. It will be hard for the Gophers to pull off the sweep if they let MSUM have the advantage for 8 minutes like they did in the first. No doubt that Minnesota head coach Brad Frost is saying something similar to his team right now. Noora Raty gets the second straight start after getting last night’s win. Usually she splits the weekend series with Alyssa Grogan. The last time she played in both games in a weekend was against UMD on Oct.16-17. She has looked solid so far, tallying 13 saves while only allowing one breakaway goal 5 minutes into the game. MSUM has 14 shots on goal to Minnesota’s 10. 39.0-The Gophers will get their first power-play opportunity of the game. 2:58-Gophers back to full stength. 4:58-The Mavericks will have another shot on the power play as Kelly Seeler heads to the box for cross-checking. 7:30-Megan Bozek will head to the box for body checking.
