Former Minnesota swimmer Jillian Tyler earned a spot on the Canadian national team for the 2012 summer Olympics in London. She took first in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Canadian Olympic trials Thursday in Montreal.

Tyler's time of one minute, 7.18 seconds blew past the Olympic qualifying mark of 1:08.49.

This is Tyler's second time at the Olympics after she competed in Beijing at the 2008 summer Olympics. She placed 13th in the semifinals of the 100 breaststroke and touched the wall in 1:09.00.

Tyler won the NCAA championship title in the 100-yard breaststroke last season during her senior year with the Gophers. She was also a 13-time All-American and an eight-time Big Ten champion over her entire collegiate career.

Another current Gopher also swam at the Canadian trials. Freshman Jessica Plant did not make the team. She finished fifth in the consolation final of the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:02.68.

The swimming events of the Olympics will be held July 28- Aug. 4 in the London Aquatics Centre.
