An experienced team skates for the Huskies (0-2) this season in pursuit of home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Michigan Tech coach Tim Watters’ roster has 20 returning letterwinners, including the team’s top-15 point getters.
Watters’ only soft spot is in goal as the end of the 1998-99 season saw the departure of four-year mainstay David Weninger. Goaltending was an issue over last weekend when the Huskies opened the season. Michigan Tech was shutout twice, losing 0-9 and 0-3 at Northern Michigan.
Weninger’s brother Todd and junior Jason Moilanen split the time in goal in the team’s opening games. The pair combined for a .847 save percentage.
