First-string running back Duane Bennett is out the rest of the season with a leg injury, Gophers head coach Tim Brewster announced Tuesday. Bennett was injured after catching a screen pass in the fourth quarter of SaturdayâÄôs win over Bowling Green. He needed assistance leaving the field and was favoring his right leg. Bennett led the team with 140 yards on 32 carries in the teamâÄôs first two games, and is second on the team in receiving with 12 catches for 125 yards. âÄúDuaneâÄôs a vital part of our offense,âÄù junior defensive end Lee Campbell said. âÄúItâÄôs going to be a big loss.âÄù True freshmen DeLeon Eskridge and Shady Salamon are second and third on the running back depth chart, respectively. Salomon led the Gophers in rushing last week, with 64 yards on 12 carries.
