Softball goes 3-2 on the weekend, Moulton throws second no-hitter

Sara Moulton threw her second no-hitter of the year on Saturday, but Gophers still suffered their first two-loss tournament of this season this past weekend in Boca Raton, Fla. Both losses were one-run losses; they lost on Friday to Providence 4-3 and again on Sunday to Boston College 2-1.

Moulton's no-hitter came against Florida Atlantic University, the host of the Embassy Suites Classic, on Saturday. Minnesota's ace struck out 14 batters in the game. FAU's run came on a fielder's choice after two walks and an error.

The Gophers won their first extra inning game of the season on Friday in nine innings.  Erika Smyth scored the only run of the game on a Tyler Walker swinging bunt in the ninth inning. Western Kentucky rallied in the bottom of the ninth but to no avail.

Catcher Kari Dorle drove in six runs in Minnesota's five-inning rout Bethune Cookman on Saturday 13-0. The team scored nine runs in the fifth inning; Dorle hit a two-run and three-run home run in the inning.

The Gophers are now 17-6 on the season. They will return to action next weekend in the SpringHill Suites Invitational in Boise, Ida.
