Mead, Price earn Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week honors

All-Americans Hassan Mead and Steph Price have been named Big Ten Cross Country Runners of the Week following their performances at the Roy Griak Invitational last Saturday. Both runners finished in the top five of their respective races in one of the largest cross country meets in the nation.

Mead made the most of his return to the Griak after sitting idle last season due to injury. He finished third overall and was only 10 seconds off the pace of the previous course record. Mead finished with a time of 23 minutes, 48 seconds. Unfortunately for Mead, a new record was set in the same race by Lawi Lalang out of the University of Arizona. Lalang won the Division I race and shattered the previous record in the process. Lalang finished with a time of 23 minutes, 15 seconds. Mead was the first Big Ten finisher at the Griak.

On the women’s side, Price finished fifth overall with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds, but failed to best her second place finish from last year’s Griak. Deborah Maier from the University of California won the Division I women’s race with a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds. Price was the first Big Ten finisher at the Griak. This is the second time this season Price has received the Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week accolade.
