Regents will address report from General Counsel, budget request

The University Board of Regents will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Gateway Alumni Center on the sixth floor in the main boardroom.
Regents meetings
ù New deans Shirley Baugher, of the College of Human Ecology, and Peter Polverini, of the School of Dentistry, along with University of Minnesota-Rochester Provost David Carl, will be introduced to the regents.
ù The University’s General Counsel office will present its annual report on office activities, functions and expenses.
During the last fiscal year, the office spent more than $2.7 million on outside legal fees.
ù The regents are also expected to approve University President Mark Yudof’s biennial budget request.
The request asks for $150 million to strengthen the University’s foundation and $71.3 million to invest in the University’s future.
Some of the highlights include a $32.2 million, four-year plan to raise University faculty salaries to the median level of the top 30 research institutions in the nation, along with $58 million to cover the rising costs of the University’s health insurance.
