George R. R. Martin tells the worst joke ever

The moment that Game of Thrones fans have been waiting for has finally arrived — Just kidding.

Author of Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin announced the release of the next GOT book. If only it were the next installment of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Taking a very Tolkein-esque approach to the world that he created, Martin offers to fans a comprehensive history of Westeros, spanning from the Dawn Age to the fall of the Mad King Aerys.

Though fans are likely thrilled to hear Martin has not fallen off the radar, and is indeed, still writing, maybe — just maybe — Martin needs to sort out his priorities.

His new book, co-written by Elio Garcia and Linda Atonsson of Westeros.org will highlight the alliances and bloody histories between the Baratheons, Starks, Targaryens and Lannisters.

Never fear! Though it is still indeterminate as to when The Winds of Winter will be complete — no surprises there — fans still have the popular HBO series, Game of Thrones to fall back on.

The World of Ice and Fire is set to arrive in bookstores on October 26, 2014. The Winds of Winter will hit shelves within Martin’s lifetime…Hopefully…
