Cross Country heads to nationals

Both the 13th-ranked women’s and men’s cross country team received an at-large bid to the NCAA championships in Ames, Iowa on Monday Nov. 20.
After finishing third in regionals, this is the men’s fourth consecutive trip to nationals, an unprecedented feat in school history. Minnesota finished 15th last year.
The women’s team finished second at NCAA regionals, its highest finish since 1989.
Women’s swimming and diving
The two-time defending Big Ten champion Gophers host the Minnesota Invitational beginning Friday morning at the Aquatic Center. 13 teams will compete, including five Division I schools. The Gophers are 16th in the CSCAA Preseason poll and are 3-0 after narrowly defeating Iowa State.
Following the Minnesota Invitational, the Gophers are off until Dec. 1 when they compete in the three-day Texas Invitational in Austin.
Wrestling
The grapplers open their regular season matches against North Dakota State and at the Omaha Open. Last year Minnesota won all 10 weight class titles, the third straight year Minnesota won at least nine titles at the Open.
Eight Gophers are ranked in Intermat’s preseason poll. Junior Leroy Vega is No. 3 at 125 pounds. Sophomore Luke Becker is fourth at 157 pounds and senior Brad Pike is fifth at 165.
The team is ranked second in Intermat’s preseason poll. Iowa is No. 1 and Iowa State is third, followed by Illinois and Lehigh to round out the top five.
