Minnesota volleyball dominates Wisconsin

It only took three sets for the Gophers volleyball team to take down Wisconsin on Friday night in the Big Ten opener, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 26-24.

Minnesota took early control of the first two sets, using an even flowing attack to pull away the score and keep the Badgers out of rhythm.  Wisconsin got their act together in the third set, taking a 15-12 lead midway through the set,  but a 6-1 run by Minnesota reclaimed the lead as they would go on to close out the match.

It comes as no surprise that the Gophers were led by junior Lauren Gibbemeyer, a continual force in the middle of the Gophers front court.  She led all scoring with 14 kills to go along with three blocks.  Also playing well for Minnesota was senior Taylor Carico who had six kills while setting up the rest of the offense with 35 assists, and sophomore Ariana Filho, who had seven kills on a solid .357 hitting percentage.

Minnesota now moves on to play Iowa at the Sports Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
