Scholarship set up in memory of Dave Moore

The family of the late WCCO-TV anchor Dave Moore is setting up an endowed scholarship fund that will go to two University students every year.
The University Foundation took the lead in a fund-raiser aimed at collecting $100,000. The foundation started accepting contributions over the weekend in memory of Moore, who died Wednesday after a bout with a six-month illness. He died at 73.
When the foundation reaches its goal, $2,500 will go to two students each year — one in the area of broadcast journalism and the other in theater, said Martha Douglas, director of communications at the foundation.
Douglas said Moore’s family originally conceived of the memorial fund before handing the reins to the foundation.
The former news anchor had a long history of participating in Twin Cities theater.
He began studying at the University in the 1940s and earned a theater degree. He later returned to teach a class in the department for several years.
