University of Minnesota presidencies have been littered with controversies regarding research, financial mismanagement and academic cheating in athletics over the last four decades.
Now, President Eric Kaler is facing backlash amid criticism of the University’s human subject research practices. Though he has no plans of leaving, some leaders before him weren’t as successful with surviving difficult times.
“You accumulate critics. Everybody’s cheering when you come, and they love when you leave,” said C. Peter Magrath, who became president in 1974. “In between, it can be sheer hell.”
